Cpu led solid bent socket pins7/25/2023 ![]() ![]() If you feel like you can't do it yourself, you could also try to have a watchmaker/jeweller repair it, someone like that has the tools and skills to do such intricate work. And in this video for example, they talk about bent pins at 37:17 mins, and shortly after they show one way of properly installing a CPU into an LGA socket. You can also watch this to get some confidence, he has managed to do it (although he doesn't show the process itself). This video here is probably the most useful one, they show examples of how to fix pins. Do this with a magnifying glass, ideally one that you don't have to hold and that has an integrated light. No bending back and forth (metal fatigue could lead to them breaking off). You don't want to grab them and force them back into position, you just want to gently prod/push them in the right direction one at a time. Now, you can try to fix it yourself, by carefully trying to nudge (not pull) the pins back into position. There's a handful on the bottom left, the top right, and potentially some on the bottom right (not 100% on those). Yes, like i thought, you definitely have some bent socket pins. It will be spread by the cooler pressure. I use soft, lint-free paper towels and q-tips dipped in high-purity isopropanol alcohol to clean, and then apply a generous drop of new heatpaste onto the middle of the CPU, at least the size of a large grain of rice. So ideally you'd clean it and then apply new heatpaste. For the best cooling results, you should clean the CPU heatspreader and the cooler base, because when you re-use old heatpaste, there can be trapped air bubbles which won't be good. If the pins are all perfectly aligned, you can put the CPU back in. If some pins look bent (even very slightly), please make photos of the socket from different angles and upload them/link them here. Check carefully (with a magnifying glass, if possible) if all the socket pins look exactly the same, in position and in height. Take out the CPU and carefully inspect the underside and especially the socket for any bent pins, foreign objects, dirt, or other abnormalities. If the pads under the CPU and some bent pins of the socket don't make proper contact, you can have all kinds of problems, including CPU LED. It's quite easy to inadvertently bend some socket pins during CPU installation, because the socket pins on Intel are quite fragile. If that all doesn't change anything, i'd look under the CPU, at the socket pins. Also take out and/or disconnect the drives, and leave only one RAM module in slot A2. I'd take out the 4080 for now, i know you're not gonna get a picture like that, but for the time being, you just want to get past the CPU LED. My apologies if this question is off-base, I really appreciate any help or advice! Picture attached of the current status, sorry for my terrible cable management so far. Is there something I am missing or anything else I should try? I've checked all cables, everything else on the PC seems to be working fine (GPU, fans, liquid cooling fans, RAM, LEDS, etc). I also tried going through all these steps again with the same results, and the light still remains red. I have restarted the computer since then and the CPU light remains red. After the restart the CPU light is still solid red after leaving it on for 5-10 more minutes. It ran for about 7 minutes with the Flash BIOS button flashing, then automatically restarted with the Flash BIOS light off, which is what causes me to believe it was successful. Inserted the USB and pressed the Flash BIOS button with PSU powered on, but computer turned off. I formatted a blank USB as FAT32, moved the downloaded BIOS file over (extracted and renamed as 'MSI.ROM').ģ. I believe the BIOS update via the Flash BIOS update was successful after following the steps below.Ģ. I followed the instructions on this thread. I am having trouble with the CPU light remaining red and the PC is unable to connect to any displays, no BIOS or boot menu showing. I have just built my first custom build PC. ![]()
